Finish Year : Week 1

Every Sunday I am going to give an update about what I accomplished the previous week on my Finish List.

To be honest some weeks you may come by and I will have done nothing. I do not expect to have weeks like that but I planned for it anyways. I planned for it because I know how fickle I can be and I know there will be unforeseen events that will hinder me from doing something every week of the year. Each item on my list does not require me to do something every week of the year. Even if I do not do something for a month I can pick right back up and still have plenty of time to finish my list!

Week One : January 1- January 5

Family: Finish 12 new outing/activities in Columbus that we have never down.
  • I started a list of activities/outings to be done in Columbus over the course of the year. One outing I am really excited about is going to the Scioto Audubon, a park in Columbus that we have never been to. Info can be found HERE
Business: Finish selling 100 lbs of coffee!
  • Several taste test results came back positive. Sister hosted a party and served some of my coffee. It was an El Salvador that I was told would be pretty hard to mess up. I have several people asking for coffee. I just need to figure out which type of coffee I am going to make. I think for this year I am going to just pick one location and sell as much from that one kind as possible.
Mental: Finish writing 78,000 words in a year (1,500 words per week.)
  • This week I slayed this goal. I wrote 3,451 words. Most of these words were put onto the blog but I am working on a special project that I will write about later. So excited about this goal. 74,549 words to go!
Physical: Finish the 2013 Columbus Half Marathon
  •  I really want this to be more about becoming a long time runner but around the Holidays I find zero motivation - especially when there is snow outside. When I ran the marathon I trained for like 9 months so I think I can wait till it warms up to start working towards this goal on my list right? :)
Spiritual: Finish reading through the Bible and hand writing the book of Proverbs.
  • I decided that as I read approximately 3-4 chapters each day in order to get the first part of this goal done I am going to write one thought I had from each section. Follow along HERE. This week I did all of the thoughts on one post but I think from now on I will just post them each day. Less for you to read (if you feel like following along).
  • The book of Proverbs has 915 verses. To complete this goal I will need to write 17.59 verses a week. I know this seems like something odd to do; I promise to give a reasoning for it soon. This week I wrote out the first 16 verses.
Financial: Finish a budget (readjust lifestyle to meet budget) that is not dependent on my wife's
income.
  •  With baby #3 coming at the beginning of March we really want my wife to be able to not have to work her part time job. With student loans on top of a mortgage and normal bills we are really close to be able to live on my income alone but it is just a little too close. This goal is really important to us and I hope we can come up with solutions.
Social: Finish a search for a community group at Church.
  • This is the item on the list I am most excited about! Gina and I started attending Veritas Community Church at the end of 2012. We believe this is where we will be attending/joining for as long as possible. While Sunday mornings are an important part of our faith we believe that spiritual growth is deeply connected with relationships. We are really excited about meeting a lot of new people this year as a result of joining a new church. We are most excited about finding the Community Group that we hope to grow with in 2013. The first step for this is to attend the Veritas Foundations class that tells us more about the church and how to get connected to a community group.  We signed up this week to attend this course next Friday and Saturday morning so this is a item on my list I hope to cross off early this year.
*Bonus*: Finish Max and Deacons room along with the most epic baby nursery design for baby #3
  • We had a work day on Saturday getting Max and Deacons room set up. They now have bunk beds, although Deac is a little small still for a big boy bed. This is going to be a fun goal.
Still need to get a matress for the bottom bunk. Dont tell me. I know... :) For now we will just pile the stuffed animals!
